Silox

2013 . glass and silicone . 106 x 63 x 73 cm

Silox consists of a silicone part aswell as a glass construction made of float glass, which is also glued together with silicone. In this still used as an adhesive and sealant, the silicone takes an independent form as an object underneath of the glass construction. The result is a contrast between the organic-looking, freely proliferating silicone and the technical and inorganic glass. Since the glass construction is based on the soft and rather unstable silicone, the stability of the work seems to be called into question. The clinical character of glass and silicone is broken by the fact that the glass gets “stained”, “smudged” and “overgrown” by the silicone. The idea of perfection and purity of float glass is also addressed once again.
